In this video, Dr. Justin Marchegiani talks about hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's, and TSH lab testing. Most people that suffer from low thyroid symptoms including cold hands/cold feet, fatigue, weight gain, hair loss, constipation, and depression typically ask their doctor to test their thyroid. Most doctors typically run TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) to assess thyroid function. TSH is actually a pituitary hormone, not a thyroid hormone. The TSH ranges typically detect or pick up on hypothyroidism after many years that it has been active. To detect hypothyroidism or Hashimoto's, more functional thyroid lab testing needs to be used to help pick up on these subtle imbalances.
